What do frogs, the Hudson Valley, and the jungles of Colombia have in common? Folklore Urbano NYC presents “Brave New Frogs-Los Sapos Valientes,” a multidisciplinary production for kids and adults by the directors of Cumbia for kids/Cumbia for All. Set in a laboratory in the jungles of Colombia’s Pacific coast, Brave New Frogs brings to light real issues impacting our own Hudson Valley, as well as communities around the globe. Diversity, science, love, resilience, and hope emerge in this charming spectacle of dance, music, and theater for audiences of all ages.

Building on earlier workshops involving music and movement inspired by the diverse geographical regions of Colombia, this spring’s residency will continue the conversation around nature, this time exploring flowers in the context of springtime and Colombia, the origin of most of the flowers we import here in the U.S.A.  We will discuss the region surrounding Medellín, the city of “Eternal Spring,” learn about the Festival of Flowers, and ask important questions to the students like:  Do you know where most of the flowers come from which are sold in stores?  What would life be without flowers?  What do flowers bring us?  What kinds of flowers are native to our own town?  How are bees related to flowers and to our everyday life?  Guided by the teaching artists, the residency will bring environmental and global awareness through rhythm, song, and movement.  Scholarships available.
