The Pablo Mayor Trio brings a refreshing, groove-based authenticity to the genre of Latin Jazz, rooted in Mayor’s in-depth study of his native Colombia’s folkloric music, along with a background in jazz arranging and a history of performing Afro-Caribbean music. Mayor’s skill at jazz composition and arranging can be heard on recordings ranging from Arturo O’Farrill’s Grammy-award winning recordin “Offense of the Drum” to vocalist and Colombian folkloric icon Totó la Momposina’s
“Pa’Canto,” and on four albums with his own highly-acclamied “Folklore Urbano
Orchestra.”
The ensemble features longtime collaborators Franco Pinna on drums whose global
percussion set-up and a career of over 70 recordings with NYC’s diverse Latin
community brings a colorful, unpredictable, and nuanced sound to the group.
Together with Dave Hertzberg on bass, whose deep groove colored by his
experience ranging from straight-ahead jazz to Cuban timba, rock, and klezmer,
and 15 years exploring Colombian music, bring a truly unique expression of
contemporary Latin jazz.
